All we hear on radio traffic news is of accidents blocking roads- Should driving tests be more rigorous?
No, the test is fine and, while young drivers do have more accidents than older drivers, that could simply reflect their lack of experience rather than recklessness. A serious factor in accident rates must be road design and even road adequacy. Until the money we road users pay in road taxes is used to provide the volume of road space needed to meet demand, then the accident rate is actually being DESIGNED IN by those who oppose road building for whatever reason. Inadequate road capacity and bad road and junction designs, forcing vehicles into unsafe proximity, is a cause of death and injury which, in turn, imposes mive costs on the economy and on public expenditure. Bad roads are a false economy.
